XML is a method for describing data that has a hierarchical structure.
The World Wide Web uses the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) as its communication protocol. With HTTP, Web pages are sent and received as a series of HTTP requests and HTTP responses. HTTP can be used for many other purposes besides Web page access and navigation.
